Our LIT program is a leadership training opportunity for teens who are beyond the age of youth camp, and not yet 17. Generally our LITs are entering grade 10 and 11, or the equivalent age.

This is a mentorship-based, hands-on program where teens receive training and practical experience to shape their development as leaders. We believe that teens are capable and trustworthy, and deserve every chance to grow and shine—and our LIT graduates certainly do.

The LIT program is an ideal stepping stone for other camp leadership opportunities.

Please note there must be a minimum of 2 or 3 students to run the LIT program.

Leaders in Training

Summer 2026 applications are open!

Our LIT program is getting better in 2026.
Details below!

The program begins with two weeks of leadership training (June 29 - July 10) where LITs have the opportunity to reflect on their strengths and develop their skills as future leaders. During their training weeks, they will look at topics such as the characteristics of a leader, servant leadership, and understanding the developmental needs of kids. These weeks are mandatory to attend for the program.

After the training week is complete, LITs serve as camp leaders for two weeks (July 13-24) of day camp. Alongside the camp staff, LITs are given hands-on camp experience as they lead activities, work in teams, and help the campers grow spiritually.  During this time, they’ll meet regularly with the LIT Coordinator to debrief their experiences, assess their own growth and challenges, and continue to learn how to lead.

After completing two volunteer weeks, the Camp Director and LIT & Youth Coordinator will assess the LITs and determine if they have met our learning expectations. A positive assessment opens the opportunity to volunteer for the remaining weeks of camp, from July 27-August 21. LITs who fail to meet our learning requirements are not able to volunteer further into the summer. As long as they’re the right age, all LITs are welcome to apply for the program again in the following year.

Please note that the training weeks cannot count towards high school volunteer hours. However, the hours worked during the service weeks can be.
